For a whirlwind nine years, The Vinyl Records (TVR) were more than just a band; they were a movement. With their raw energy, empowering lyrics, and an unmistakable sound, they carved out a cult following that resonated far beyond their Delhi University roots. Their story is one of spontaneous creation, international stages, and the bittersweet reality of a journey paused at its peak. We caught up with the frontwoman to look back on the magic, the memories, and what the future might hold.
A DIY Dream Born in a Jam Room
20s creativity. Fresh-faced and studying at Delhi University, the band members found their rhythm in the chaotic beauty of jam sessions and DIY gigs. “One of the first memories that often comes to my mind… is the sense of camaraderie and spontaneity,” the frontwoman recalls. In those early days, it wasn’t about perfection; it was about connection. “The laughter, the mistakes, and the sheer joy of playing music in an intimate setting often create lasting impressions.” It was this authentic, unfiltered joy that became the bedrock of their sound and the core of their identity.

They didn’t just want to play music; they wanted to build a conversation with their audience. This ethos led them to focus on original compositions from the very beginning. They believed that sharing their own stories was the most powerful way to connect, a philosophy that quickly set them apart in a scene often dominated by cover bands.
The Magic That Clicked: Sound, Vibe, and Empowerment
It didn’t take long for TVR to build a dedicated cult following. What was their secret? According to the frontwoman, it was a perfect storm of elements hitting at just the right time. “It was a huge blessing and manifestation,” she says. The band’s sound was undeniably a major draw, but their message resonated just as deeply. “Our lyrics about women empowerment which is often the first hook,” she explains, gave their music a purpose that went beyond just catchy tunes.
This blend of an infectious sound, a powerful message, and the right timing created an undeniable magic. The band wasn’t just performing; they were starting a conversation, creating a space where fans felt seen and heard. This authentic connection was the spark that ignited their rapid rise and cemented their place in the hearts of their listeners.

From Local Stages to Global Recognition
TVR’s journey was nothing short of remarkable. Over nine years, they played over 500 gigs, gracing the stages of nearly every major festival in India. But their music wasn’t destined to stay within national borders. Their story and sound captured international attention, leading to documentaries by Sweden’s national channel, Kobra, and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This global recognition opened doors to incredible opportunities. They performed at the Bhutan International Festival, collaborated with Swedish artist Maria Andersson at the Red Bull Music Academy in Sweden, and rocked the Maudit Tangue Festival on Réunion Island. For the band, carrying their sound beyond borders was a “transformative experience.” It was a journey of self-discovery, connecting with new fans, and uniting people through the universal language of music.

Was there a single moment when it all felt real? The frontwoman reflects that it wasn’t just one big event, but a series of powerful experiences. “Sometimes it could be a local show in a packed venue where the crowd sings along, other times an international festival where the atmosphere is electric,” she shares. These moments, where their personal art created a shared experience with a roaring crowd, were constant reminders that their dream was truly happening.
The Heartbeat of a Frontwoman
Being the voice of a band is a multifaceted role, and for TVR’s frontwoman, every part of the creative process held its own thrill. While she found deep, personal fulfillment in the introspective act of writing lyrics, it was the stage that made her feel most alive. “The adrenaline of being on stage, the energy from the crowd, and the opportunity to express oneself” created a unique and powerful connection.
The recording studio offered its own kind of magic, a space where vision became reality. Each stage of the creative cycle—writing, recording, and performing—was a vital part of the artistic journey, each bringing its own unique sense of aliveness and purpose.

The Unforeseen Pause and a Shift in Perspective
In 2020, the world came to a standstill, and so did The Vinyl Records. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the band to part ways, marking an end to their incredible nine-year run. Stepping away from the constant motion of band life gave the members a chance for deep personal exploration. It was a moment to reflect on their journey, their identities as artists, and the history they had created together from 2011 to 2019.
Looking back, the frontwoman embraces the entire journey without regret. She sees every twist and turn as a necessary part of their growth, shaping their sound and their identity. The experience wasn’t just about making music; it was about inspiring people and learning along the way.
A Creative Fire That Never Went Out
So, what has she been up to since the band’s break? While she’s been quietly making music, she’s hesitant to label it a solo project. The creative fire is still burning, and the connection to her bandmates remains strong. “It will be a TVR release,” she reveals, though she cautions that it might take some time. The logistics of getting everyone together have been challenging, but the discussion is ongoing.
And for the fans holding out hope for a reunion or a taste of unreleased music? The door is far from closed. When asked about the possibility, her answer is filled with hopeful optimism: “Can’t wait to make that happen, let’s hope so!!”
The story of The Vinyl Records is a powerful reminder of how authenticity, passion, and a little bit of right-place-right-time magic can create something truly special. While their chapter may have paused, the echoes of their music and the spirit of their journey continue to inspire. And with the hint of new music on the horizon, fans can hold onto the hope that the best is yet to come.
